A journaling technique that changed my morning routine
Having a morning routine or ritual is vital and each of our morning routines are all quite unique. I’m not rigid when it comes to mine but there are a few things that I do habitually each morning that I feel are supporting my mind, body and spirit. Small habit shifts like drinking water before coffee, getting into my devotionals before getting into the world, moving my body before breakfast, taking time to get ready so that I feel confident for the rest of the day…
My morning’s are slow and gentle. That’s just how i like it. Some people are the opposite. Before I move my body, I have to strengthen my mind. My mind is usually racing first thing in the morning and the best way for me to unpack that is by journaling. I’ve adopted a few techniques over the years which have supported me to move through creative blocks, communicate and regulate my emotions and journey through trauma. What i’ve found is that journaling is actually a really powerful tool.
For some people journalling can be quite confronting - they don’t know where to begin. Which is why it’s helpful to have journal prompts that you can follow each morning. Each day I rise I wish to connect with my creator, cast upon my cares, set my intentions and have a clear conscious.
I’ve turned a daily prayer I learnt in bible studies into 3 powerful journaling prompts. I call it the Teaspoon (TSP) Method.
And the three journal prompts are: Thank you, Sorry, Please
Thankyou
The first thing you should be journaling about is all the things you want to thank the Lord for! The first prayer should always be one from a grateful heart. Show sincere gratitude for all the things that you have been blessed with, all your answered prayers, your friends, family, health, joy and abundance. Write as many things down in detail as possible.
Sorry
Move on to reflect and apologise for your shortcomings. It’s never easy asking our Father for forgiveness but it’s brings us closer with Him, it strengthens our bond with Him when we lean into humility and admit our wrong doing’s and ask for forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
This will help you to not only correct your character, but give you a deeper understanding to where some shame and guilt may play out in your life. It’s okay to apologise and acknowledge you’re only human and you can improve.
Please
This is where we get lay down all our plea’s and prayers. Where we get to cast our worries and cares upon the Lord and ask for guidance, healing, clarity, direction, transformation and miracles. Keep track of your requests so that you make recount when they have been answered. It’s powerful to have them written down so nyou can reflect on God’s work in your life.
The TSP Method has transformed my morning. It work’s because it begins firstly and most importantly with greeting the lord with gratitude. It gives you a moment to reflect on your character, cast your cares over and lift them up in prayer.
Journaling can help you unpack some of the deepest parts of your mind and soul. the art of writing on paper is especially powerful. It helps bring things closer into your existence.
I hope you try this journaling technique and it enriches your relationship with God, grows the fruits of the spirit in your character and helps transforms your morning routine.
